So what is the Good News?
We know we need good news because we know that there is something wrong with the world – and God, in His word the Bible, makes this clear. We “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), we are sinners, this is the real source of the uncertainty, distress and trouble in the world all around us and in our own lives. More than this, there are consequences for our sin: “…the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). This is more than just physical death, but eternal judgment and separation from God.
We cannot save ourselves from our sinful condition, “for by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). We are helpless, and without God’s salvation, we have “no hope” (Ephesians 2:12).

But the good news, the gospel, is that God has provided salvation from sin and its consequences. God “the Father sent the Son (Jesus Christ) to be the Saviour of the world” (I John 4:14). Jesus Christ “came into the world to save sinners” (I Timothy 1:15). He did this in His death, burial and resurrection! “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but (made alive) by the Spirit" (I Peter 3:18). “For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him" (II Corinthians 5:21). Through Jesus Christ, we can be made right with God.

Because of the work that Jesus Christ did when He died and rose again, you can be forgiven of your sins. You can be saved. Jesus Himself makes the invitation: “Come unto me, all ye who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He saves everyone who repents (turns away) from their sin, and trusts Him. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). The Lord Jesus “is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him.” (Hebrews 7:25)
That is good news, great news, for everyone. The question remains, what will you do with Jesus? Will you trust Him?
